May 20th is the annual conjunction of the Sun with the Pleiades constellation (Maya—the basis for the name of the month of May and the Maya??? being one of the seven sisters of the Pleiades) and thus the solar eclipse will be conjunct the Pleiades. The Mayans had their pyramids aligned to the Pleiades.
Some surmise that May 20,2012 will be the zero date of the Mayan Calendar when it officially ends. The first appearance was on August 29,984 but I cannot find a Mayan connection to that date. The 21st (777) incarnation was the infamous 1345 date. Meaning this incarnation is 37 cycles later (37,73 years are universally horrible for the stock market).
